Artificial intelligence is transforming the lives and work of many, but it is always difficult to understand what the majority of people perceive. So, together with Ipsos (Osservatorio Nuove Tecnologie), we decided to investigate the opinions of Italians with an in-depth research involving a representative sample of 1,500 people aged between 16 and 65. High knowledge of AI First of all, it emerges that, among the various technological topics, Artificial Intelligence is the best known topic (95% of those interviewed have heard of it) together with virtual reality.
Much less known are blockchain, cryptocurrencies and Web3. As regards generative India Mobile Number Data artificial intelligence , 75% of the sample declares having heard of it (a share which increases to 88% among Generation Z). Among these, 20% declare they have also used GenAI applications. Therefore, a still small share of Italians, equal to 15%, have got their hands on these new tools. The use of GenAI is still low In terms of methods of use, 70% say they use generative AI for personal use, 33% for work and 25% for study (here the percentage rises to 44% for Gen Z).
In particular, the most frequent uses are the generation of texts (52%) or synthesis (36%), the translation of languages (33% which rises to 44% for Boomers) and the generation of images (32% which goes to 58% for Boomers). Only 26% data analysis, while the percentages of use of tools for generating audio (16%) and video (8%) are still small, normal given the current immaturity of the tools. The best-known GenAI application is, naturally, ChatGPT, cited by 64% of the sample and growing compared to the past, probably also because it is the app most cited by the mass media. The competitor Google Bard follows in second place with 36%. Much lower is the knowledge of Dall-E (13%), Midjourney (12%) and Stable Diffusion (10%).
